Exodus 6:1-30 I WILL……….

Intro: Chapter 6 is a continuation of the last part of chapter 5. The time for the plagues to descend upon Egypt is at hand.

  1. Magee had this comment to make about Ex. Ch. 6 THE BATTLE OF
  2. THE gods IS ABOUT TO BEGIN- What has led up to this moment?

  3. In retrospect we find that the first thing Moses, Aaron did was ask
  4. Pharaoh for permission to go out into the wilderness & sacrifice to the Lord

  5. Pharaoh's answer was no ACCUSSED OF BEING IDLE / then He increased the burden of the Israelites. /
  1. The children of Israel complained to Moses/ who in turn complained to the Lord.

Ch. 5: 22 So Moses returned to the LORD and said, "Lord, why have You brought trouble on this people? Why is it You have sent me?

23 "For since I came to Pharaoh to speak in Your name, he has done evil to this people; neither have You delivered Your people at all."

The Lord responds in Ch. 6

6:1 Then the LORD said to Moses, "Now you shall see what I will do to Pharaoh. For with a strong hand he will let them go, and with a strong hand he will drive them out of his land."

  1. Every have a situation when you were kid – maybe being picked on by some older kids – Bully -
  1. Older Brother or Mom or Dad – said Show me these kids / who they are
  1. I Saw My Mom in a whole New Light –
  2. This is how I picture this Conversation - "Now you shall see what I will do to Pharaoh.
  1. Cool – Awesome – lets show them

v.2 And God spoke to Moses and said to him: "I am the LORD.

  1. Now this is a common move of God – He always seeks to build our faith in Him by giving us a Revelation of who He is
    1. That is why our Greatest need is to Know Him / See Him for who He is / See Him in His Glory

-- D.L. Moody We ought to see the face of God every morning before we see the face of man.

  1. In fact Most of our Problems stem from the FACT that that we do not have a Proper View of God / Don’t Know Him
  1. Result we don’t Trust Him in all things / matters in our own hands always wrestling w/ our Flesh
  1. Or we don’t FEAR HIM as we should – we play around in compromise

What is your ambition in life today? Is it to get rich? Is it to make a name for yourself? Is it even to do some wonderful thing for God? Listen to me, beloved. The highest desire that can possess any human heart is a longing to see God. -- J. Vernon McGee

What I am anxious to see in Christian believers is a beautiful paradox. I want to see in them the joy of finding God while at the same time they are blessedly pursuing Him. I want to see in them the great joy of having God yet always wanting Him.

A.W. Tozer in Men Who Met God.

The Amazon River is the largest river in the world. The mouth of the River is 90 miles across. There is enough water to exceed the combined flow of the Yangtze, Mississippi, and Nile Rivers combined

So much water comes from the Amazon that they can detect its currents 200 miles out in the Atlantic Ocean.

One irony of ancient navigation is that sailors in ancient times died for lack of water--caught in windless waters of the South Atlantic. They were adrift, helpless, dying of thirst.

Sometimes other ships from South America who knew the area would come alongside and call out, "What is your problem?" And they would exclaim, "Can you spare us some water? Our sailors are dying of thirst!" And from the other ship would come the cry, "just lower your buckets. You are in the mouth of the mighty Amazon River."

The irony of ancient Israel and the tragedy around us today is that God, the fountain of living water, is right here and people don't recognize Him!

Jacob surely God is in this Place & I knew it Not

God wants us to see Him / Seeks to reveal Himself to us in the Word

  1. Passion – Lord – I want to see you – Lord I want to Know You
  1. Study the Word – what is this revealing to be about God !!!

B) Jesus described in John 17 Eternal Life is Knowing God -

    1. Know Intimately – understood to mean that the more I Know Him the more of this life I will come to experience

C)I love this about the Lord – In order to build our Faith – He seeks to reveal Himself more Clear

He does that here w/ Moses :

3 "I appeared to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, as God Almighty, but by My name LORD I was not known to them.

4 "I have also established My covenant with them, to give them the land of Canaan, the land of their pilgrimage, in which they were strangers.

  1. The Lord tells Moses when I appeared to Abe …..Jacob – I appeared to them as God Almighty – EL SHADDAI
  2. But Moses I have declared to You my Name – The I Am – His name spoke of Him being the faithful one – who remembers His Promise
  3. The Becoming one – Whatever you need – The One who will always be there – the One to look to & trust in
  4. It is One thing to see Him as Almighty – very Important – See His Strength Power & Majesty
  1. But in Declaring His name – makes it Personal - All that I am Moses is for You – With You behind you
  1. Chief Aspect of the Revelation of God – Not Abstract Force Or – Distant King – But a faithful Friend Loving Father / Caring Shepherd
  1. All of which is communicated by Him declaring His name

Heb 1:1 God, who at various times and in various ways spoke in time past to the fathers by the prophets, 2 has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the worlds; 3 who being the brightness of His glory and the express image of His person,

  1. "And I have also heard the groaning of the children of Israel whom the Egyptians keep in bondage, and I have remembered My covenant.

Now the idea here when God said that He remembers is not Like – Oh yea I forgot - but rather – THE TIME IS NOW

  1. Covenant with Abraham Gen . 15 – ritual Abe cut up these Animals – meet in the Middle light the Animals on Fire – kind of a I’ll meet you half way
  2. God doesn’t Show – Abe falls Asleep – that is when God Comes – He lights the fire – Illustrating to Abe & Us / Not meet you ½ way
  3. C) God saying – This is what I am going to do & Abe what do you need to do Believe it & walk in it

  4. Which is exactly what the Lord reveals to Moses
  1. "Therefore - Because I am the Almighty one the Faithful to keep my Promises Note the Lord mentions seven things that He is going to do !!!!

say to the children of Israel: 'I am the LORD; I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, I will rescue you from their bondage, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments.

7 'I will take you as My people, and I will be your God. Then you shall know that I am the LORD your God who brings you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.

8 'And I will bring you into the land which I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob; and I will give it to you as a heritage: I am the LORD.'"

  1. Here we have an Awesome Picture of Salvation : 7 things He does
  2. Title – I WILL ……….

1st – Released from their Burden - ; I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians,

  3. Sin is an Awful Burden – Story of an Eagle swooped down upon some Frozen Ground to catch it’s Prey
  1. But when it tried to fly again – found it’s wings –so frozen & weighed down it wasn’t able to fly - Froze to death ( This is just what I need )
  1. David’s unconfessed sin – sucked the life right out of Him

Psa. 32: 3 When I refused to confess my sin, I was weak and miserable, deep inside of me and I groaned all day long.

  1. Day and night your hand of discipline was heavy on me. My strength evaporated like water in the summer heat.

D) But Once He dealt w/ it

32:1 Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered.

2 Blessed is the man to whom the LORD does not impute iniquity, And in whose spirit there is no deceit.

A leading British humanist was interviewed on television. In a moment of surprising candor, she said, "What I envy most about you Christians is your forgiveness. I have nobody to forgive me."

-- John Stott, "Freedom," Preaching Today

John 8: 32 "And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." 36 "Therefore if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed.

Saving grace makes a man as willing to leave his lusts as a slave is willing to leave his galley, or a prisoner his dungeon, or a thief his bolts, or a beggar his rags.

-- Thomas Brooks

2nd RESCUED FROM BONDAGE - I will rescue you from their bondage,

  1. Sin is Bondage

B) Judges 16:21 Then the Philistines took him and put out his eyes, and brought him down to Gaza. They bound him with bronze fetters, and he became a grinder in the prison.

LIFE GUARD RESCUED – STRONG CURRENT

C)Jesus saw us in that Place & came to the Rescue – but in order to save us

He had to Redeem us –

3rd – REDEEMED US - I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with great judgments.

  1. Is this not an Awesome Picture – w/ an Outstretched arm – two of them upon a Cross – the Price was paid

In September 1989, ten thousand East Germans fled to West Germany. Though they could look across the barbed wire and see West Germany, they had to flee first to Hungary and then through Austria to West Germany. It was a long and roundabout way to freedom.

The road to freedom from guilt and sin leads us by way of CALVARY

98:1 Oh, sing to the LORD a new song! For He has done marvelous things; His right hand and His holy arm have gained Him the victory.

2 The LORD has made known His salvation; His righteousness He has revealed in the sight of the nations.

4th – v.7 Adopted us - 7 'I will take you as My people, and I will be your God.

Rom. 8: 15 For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of adoption by whom we cry out, "Abba, Father."

Gal.4: 4 But when the fullness of the time had come, God sent forth His Son, born of a woman, born under the law,

  1. to redeem those who were under the law, that we might receive the adoption as sons.
  1. I read the Story of a 8yr. Boy from a small Midwest town who’s house caught on fire while he was sleeping – fire burned out of control

He stood at the window crying for help – man passing by heard him & climbed the rain cutter pipe up to where the boy was – pulled him to safety

In the Process of the rescue – the Pipe was so hot that the man severely burned his hands –

The boys parents were killed in the fire & there were no surviving relatives to take care of the boy – so he was going to be put up for adoption

He was a fine boy several – good people who were interested in adopting the boy - Minister / Lawyer / School teacher - / Judged decided to let the boy Decide - One other man – expressed an interest – Mechanic – wasn’t rich – but he was a good man – happened to be the man who rescued the boy

Boy – asked to – see the men’s hands – Picked the one w/ the scars

5th PROTECTION : V.7 I will be your God.

  1. Gives us His name

Romans 8

31 What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us?

32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?

33 Who shall bring a charge against God's elect? It is God who justifies.

34 Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.

35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?

36 As it is written: "For Your sake we are killed all day long; We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter."

  1. Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us.

6th –DIRECTION : 8 'And I will bring you into the land which I swore to give to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob;

  1. Guys listen – the Lord wants to bring us into the Land – into the Blessing – wants us to experience all that He has for us !!!!

Psa. 23:1 The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.

2 He makes me to lie down in green pastures; He leads me beside the still waters. 3 He restores my soul; He leads me in the paths of righteousness For His name's sake.

7th – Provision - I will give it to you as a heritage: I am the LORD.'"

Eph. 1: 11 In Him also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestined according to the purpose of Him who works all things according to the counsel of His will,

12 that we who first trusted in Christ should be to the praise of His glory.

13 In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise,

  1. who is the guarantee of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, to the praise of His glory.
  1. the eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that you may know what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints,

Deep Well Blessings beyond our Belief / Mining for Gold / Treasure Chest - only skim the surface / Cake only eat the Frosting

2 Cor. 1: 20 For all the promises of God in Him are Yes, and in Him Amen, to the glory of God through us.

We are Called Co- heirs w/ Christ - What a Blessing

Powerful Picture What God does for the Person – who puts His faith in the finished work of Christ

  1. God says I will do this – what was their Part – just believe it respond to it
  2. Walk in it - Blood on the Door – miss Angel of Death - & then Leave
  3. Same thing is true for us – God has done it all as it relates to our Salvation – What does he require of us ?
  1. Simply respond – by Believing – Put our Faith in Christ - & walk in that !!!!

Moses goes to the people v. 9

  1. So Moses spoke thus to the children of Israel; but they did not heed Moses, because of anguish of spirit and cruel bondage.

Spurgeon – THE SADDEST OF THE SAD

  1. This is so true – this great message of Hope is revealed – what God can do w/ those who will respond / those who will believe
  2. But so many never look above their circumstances
  3. Dwell in Depression – God can’t help me – I won’t believe it –
  1. Or I will believe it when I see it
  1. Jesus says Come to me - …… rest !!!!!

So often – take away my Bitterness - / my depression / My Anger –

  1. Doesn’t work that way – He says Deal w/ it – Confess it as Sin
  2. Then you will see it work -
  3. God always asks us to take steps of faith

Consider when God seeking to lead these people into the land of Promise – 12 spies – 10 saw giants / 2 saw God

  1. Whole generation was led into unbelief – missed out

Listen Hebrews said : Ch. 3

7 Therefore, as the Holy Spirit says: "Today, if you will hear His voice,

8 Do not harden your hearts as in the rebellion, In the day of trial in the wilderness,

9 Where your fathers tested Me, tried Me, And saw My works forty years.

10 Therefore I was angry with that generation, And said, 'They always go astray in their heart, And they have not known My ways.'

11 So I swore in My wrath, 'They shall not enter My rest.'"

  1. Beware, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief in departing from the living God;
  1. Don’t make the same mistake – Promised Land = Spirit filled Life
  1. Life of Rest – trusting in the Lord – His Strength / His Provision
  1. Life of Direction – Life led by the Lord –
  2. That is the life that the Lord has for us – but we can miss out on it – by simply not believing –
  3. 1) Consequently we miss out on the Fullness of God for our Lives

  4. Many know Jesus only as Savior / Not as King Lord / Provider / Shepherd
  1. Never given Him those areas of their Lives
  1. I am saved I am going to Heaven – But I am miserable –
  1. All they see is the hurts / the pain / the obstacles

10 And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,

11 "Go in, tell Pharaoh king of Egypt to let the children of Israel go out of his land."

12 And Moses spoke before the LORD, saying, "The children of Israel have not heeded me. How then shall Pharaoh heed me, for I am of uncircumcised lips?"

  1. Then the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron, and gave them a command for the children of Israel and for Pharaoh king of Egypt, to bring the children of Israel out of the land of Egypt.

Here is a familiar conversation between a servant of the Lord and the Lord

A) Moses says: If MY people didn't listen, THEN Pharaoh won't listen

God said: That's fine Moses.... Just GO

B) Many times we do the same thing- We ask: HOW?

God simply says: NOW

C)We wonder HOW it will work and the Lord says: Don't worry about that,

just do it

1) Thought that originated w/ NIKE- God was way ahead of them

  1. It has been said that God's callings are God's enablings/ His commandments are His enablements

The very fact that God said it / includes the empowering to do it – as we step out in faith & do it

B) We want power first- God says NO..... Obedience first, THEN the power

VERSES 14-27

The genealogies of Moses and Aaron

VERSES 28-30

This is about the 5th time that Moses raises the question of his inadequacy

What excuse do YOU give God for not serving Him

For not witnessing

For not praying

For not serving
