He Delights in Me

2 Samuel 22:19 - 30

At this point in the Story David is old – he is in his last days

A) Ch.21 records David’s last Battle and Victory over the arch enemies of Israel the Philistines

B) Ch.22 is His Last Psalm written after this Victory

1) In this Psalm David expressed his gratitude for what the Lord had done –

C) We too tonight can rejoice in the Lord’s Victories in our Lives

1) I would like us to briefly focus on 3 verses – give some application as we prepare for Communion

2 Sam 22:19-20

19 They confronted me in the day of my calamity,

But the LORD was my support.

20 He also brought me out into a broad place;

He delivered me because He delighted in me.

AND

30 For by You I can run against a troop;

By my God I can leap over a wall.

There are 3 things that I want to briefly consider tonight as it relates to these verses

1) A Pleasant fact to sing about

2) A Precious truth to think about

3) A Proper Course to Set about

1st A Pleasant Fact – He has Delivered me!

A) What has God delivered you from? What Pit did He pull you out of?

B) Drug or Alcohol addiction / Jail – life of Crime

Former Gang members

C) Emptiness in heart – Couldn’t fill that Void

1) Despairing – no Satisfaction - Aimless existence

D) Empty religion: Doing the Church thing

1) Not real / just ritual –

Those are some of the pits that some here were pulled out of by the Lord

A) Others saved from the pit – Didn’t make it

B) Me- Friends – Drug addicts / Friends in Jail / friends who died

1) Unwed mothers /

C) I can easily look at the lives of some of the people I grew up with – think – that could have easily been me

D) Each have a testimony – Saved out of the Pit or saved from it – Both Powerful

E) We can rejoice tonight – Set free – Delivered from sin – Fear of Death – Hope of Heaven

1) That is our pleasant fact that we can sing about!

2nd A Precious truth to think about!

He delights in me!

A) Listen God’s delight rest upon us

B) The word Delighted is a powerful word in the Hebrew – It is one of the Love words of the OT

C) David is declaring that not only is he beloved of God but that there is a Joyful element of God’s Love

1) God is attracted to him

D) You could say – that God enjoys him – God’s face brightens in a smile at the thought of his beloved

E) The word delight conveys the idea of a Joyful attraction

You know if we could believe about ourselves what David says here – We would never be the same

A) God is delighted in you – God rescues us because He is thrilled with us – He delights in our company

B) Now I have to admit – I don’t understand that – but I want to believe it

C) I remember the first time I read Luke 12:32-33

32 "Do not fear, little flock, for it is your Father's good pleasure to give you the kingdom.

D) I about fell over – Blown away –

God gets pleasure out of blessing me –

Why does God delight in us? 4 Reasons

1) Redeemed us – Bought with a Price – Precious

Heb 12 Joy set before him endured the Cross

2) Workmanship – His Poemia

3) Live in Relationship with Him {Children 1 Jn 3 Behold ………………..

LOVE THAT SAYS

a) I will always be there

b) You are mine – My kid was student of the ….

Play your kid – Video – tree

c) Protection

d) Never gives up

 

4) His Bride – Isa 62:5 Weddings

 

3rd What is the Proper Response to this Pleasant fact and Precious truth -

A) We should delight ourselves in the one who delights in us

B) A Child who Knows that they are loved – Confident /free – Joyful

C) Where as one who always is questioning his/her parents love –

1) So unsure- little confidence – always frustrated

You see they never know if they have done enough

A) They didn’t get straight A’s – My folks are going to be disappointed – wasn’t highest in the class

B) Didn’t have a perfect game –

C) Those kids live in Constant Defeat –

D) Listen that is not what the Lord wants for anyone here tonight

He wants you to walk in Victory knowing He delights in you?

A) But how can I know? THE CROSS – the SCARS -

Rom 5:8

8 But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us

Rom 8:32

32 He who did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things

See that is why David said v.30 – By my God I can leap over a wall - He delights in me!

A) What Walls are you facing tonight?

B) Walls of Worry – what if …………

1) Walls of Fear – Perfect love cast out …

C) Walls of Doubt?

All I need to do is see the Cross – Realize & Believe My God delights in me!

Believe – Delight ourselves in the Lord tonight

Allow His perfect love to take away – doubt and worry and fear!
