Heb.7:25 He is able to Save to the Uttermost

Intro: In the book of Hebrews we have seen how Jesus is our Great High Priest

A)We noted in Ch. 5 that as our High Priest – He ministered in the capacity & met the Qualifications pictured in the Aaronic Priesthood

B) Quick Rev. In Ch. 5 the Basic qualifications & Functions of the H.P.

1^st He was appointed by God . – Didn’t Choose office God Choose him.

1) Jesus was appointed by the Father to the Role of Our H.P. –

C)2^nd The H.P. being a man was able to sympathize w/ the People he ministered to .

1) Jesus our H.P became a man that He might – being a Compassionate & merciful H.P. able to Sympathize w/ us

D) 3^rd The H.P. offered up sacrifices for the sins of the People.

1) Like wise Jesus our H.P offered up a sacrifice – final one for sins

So Jesus meets the requirements of the Priesthood pictured in Aaron

He fulfilled the Ministry of the Aaronic Priesthood – Salvation

A)But We have also seen that Jesus is a Priest after a whole different order – order of Melch. – 2 important aspects

B) 1^st King & a Priest / 2^nd His Ministry is forever – never stops

1) The Significance is this – In Aaron – that Priestly model – He attained our Salvation / In Melch. He maintains our salvation

C) Well here in Ch. 7 that is what we have been discussing the Ministry of Jesus as our H.P. after the order of Melch. – Maintaining Ministry.

1) Comes to the High Point of the discussion in v.25 – says

²⁵Therefore He is also able to save to the uttermost those who come to God through Him, since He always lives to make intercession for them.

This morning I want us to consider 5 aspects of How Jesus our H.P. saves to the Uttermost

1^st Consider the Magnitude of this Salvation : We are saved to experience the blessings of God !!!

A) Those blessings include – first of all Glorious Present Blessings

1) I have been delivered by Him from the Power of Sin that bond me / that once held me captive . So that I couldn’t do what I really wanted

B) Many People try to free themselves from the Power of sin. There is a great fallacy in the world today

1) Those who say I will come to God once I clean my act up – get my life straight

C) Problem is even in those situations where a person might be able to make some changes – there is also going to be hang ups

1) That is why God tells us to come as we are – let Him Change us inside out / Power of Sin is Broken

So in this salvation I experience the glorious blessing of being delivered from the Power of Sin / Also freed from the penalty of Sin

A)We come to Christ – Sins Covered / transgressions blotted out

B) Sins forgiven / forgotten / / Record against me destroyed – Nailed to the Cross – ALL CHARGES HAVE BEEN DROPPED

1) That is a Glorious Present Blessing of this Salvation we have – Saved to the Uttermost

C) Now suppose you come to me – and say Rob / the other day someone told me about you that wasn’t good – I passed it on to 10 other people.

1) But then I found out that it wasn’t true – So I am coming to confess that & I need to ask your Forgiveness

D) Now I am apt to say – that I forgive you / I am required by the Bible to do so / So I forgive you.

Well lets say that 6 months later you come to me again – Say Rob I heard something about you / told it to 8 people / not true / forgive me

A)I am apt to say Look didn’t we have this same conversation 6 mths ago When are you going to learn your lesson & keep your mouth shut / YES I WILL FORGIVE YOU

B) See the Problem that I have w/ forgiveness is this / I can forgive but I don’t forget. I remember what happened 6 months ago

C) Often times a person will say – I forgive you – but I will never forget / what they are really saying is

1) I will bury the Hatchet but I will leave the Handle showing just incase I need it again!!! ( My Wife Gets Historical / Hysterical )

God’s forgiveness is not that way – He forgives & He forgets – it is truly gone – He chooses to put it out of His remembrance – never recalled

A)Never will bring past sins up against you – In His book they are gone

B) When I say to some one it is forgiven & forgotten – What I am really saying is – I forgive you & I am not going to dwell upon it

1) But there are many things that can happen that bring the remembrance back – a person / a place / a similar action / right back in the forefront

C) Not the case w/ the Lord – It is not just that He is not dwelling on our Failings it is that – He has truly Put it away – out of His remembrance

1) it is gone – You say forgive me again / He says AGAIN ?

So I have the Present Blessings of Being freed from the Power of sin / Forgiven concerning the penalty of sin

A)And I get to experience the awesome blessing of Fellowship friendship & Intimacy w/ God

1John 1:3 ³that which we have seen and heard we declare to you, that you also may have fellowship with us; and truly our fellowship is with the Father and with His Son Jesus Christ. ⁴And these things we write to you that your joy may be full.

B) The word Fellowship means communion / closeness / a sharing in Common – Living God / God almighty loves for me to Come

1) In this relationship – All that I have is God’s / and all that He has is mine – I gain the most from that Relationship

C) Then there is also the Present Blessing of God’s Strength & Protection over my life

1) That thru the H.S. who is residing in me / I have the Strength to live the Christian life

D) As far as protection goes / Jesus says He will never leave me or forsake me /

For He shall give His angels charge over you,To keep you in all your ways.

¹² In their hands they shall bear you up, Lest you dash your foot against a stone.

E) All of which gives me this Fantastic confidence that I can do all things thru Christ who strengthens me

Now those are Just some of the Present Blessings & Benefits of this Salvation where by we have been saved to the Uttermost

A)But that isn’t all there are also future Blessings in this salvation / Saved to the Uttermost – The Ultimate expression & experience of Glory

B) Jesus said anything that you give up in this life – for the Lord is going to be rewarded 100 fold in this life / experience eternal life in the next

1) JN. 14 In my fathers house are many mansions …….

C) Mike Rozell – All the Present Blessings & Heaven thrown in to boot.

1) When Jesus returns to establish a New Heaven / new earth we are going to be w/ Him – We will forever be w/ Our Lord

D) There is also the Future Blessing of a New Body – Body that isn’t going to be restricted by time & space – no flaws/ Feel no pain / Know no sorrow /

1) All of that is included in this Phrase saved to the uttermost – Magnitude

2^nd thing We need to see about this salvation is it is certain : Why because in our text we are told that He is able

A)In dealing w/ life’s problems we are often faced w/ having to look at own resources .

B) Some of you have some incredible resources / maybe financial – in a jam you just write a check

1) Others it is your strong will power / When You set your mind to do something – nothing is going to dissuade you from doing that

C) You are able to take a firm mindset & follow thru with your plan .

1) Now others of us don’t have such a strong will power.

I can go on a diet – Purpose in my heart – going to eat right – lose 10Lbs

A)But then I come home only to discover that my wife has made Chocolate Chip Cookies / or Brownies / Snickerdoodles –/ trouble

B) I can’t resist – Now I know I shouldn’t eat those things / & I try to say that I am only going to have ONE !!!

1)But that doesn’t work – so then I decide I am going to eat all of them / just to get them out of the house – so I can get back on my Diet / tomorrow

C) Interesting thing about those who us who have little will power is we are more apt to receive help from the Lord / than those who have strong will …

1) Because we Know that we are Weak/ The person who is strong will try to lean on His own ability for a while .

D) But those of us who are weak Know that if God doesn’t help us we are not going to make it – So we are more apt to cry out for His Help!!!

1) We know that He is able to save us / We can’t save ourselves / Our salvation doesn’t rest upon our works / but his Finished work

E) Rich Young Ruler – Impossible / But not for God / He is able to do the impossible

He is able to Save to the Uttermost / lets consider for a moment the Lords Ability

A)The Bible declares that worlds were created w/ a word – He spoke and they came into existence / heavens are the work of His fingers

B) I love watching the space shuttle blast off on T.V. to hear the roar of those powerful Rocket engines / See the Flame / Fire coming out the bottom

1) See the Thrust of that space craft – traveling at a speed of 25,000 mph

In order to break earths gravitational pull- Amazing

C) Think about the tremendous thrust of power it takes to get that Machine into orbit .

What about the sun – The sun is 865,000 miles in diameter – who knows how many billions of tons that thing weighs

A) The sun is traveling at a speed of 19 miles per second – what kind of thrust do you think it took to get it into orbit?

B) What type of thrust did it take to get that the sun moving at that speed?

1) When I consider the heavens the work of your fingers – SNAP

C) The Bible tells us in Isa. 40 that He measures the oceans in the palm of His hand ¾ of earths surface is water / and measures the heavens w/ a Span

1) In olden days they didn’t have rulers – so they used the hand to measure 6 inches – this Pulpit –

D) Astronomers tell us that the heavens are some 12 Billion light yrs in Radius / Held in the Span of God’s hand

How big is your God – He is Huge & He is able to save to the uttermost

A)Save people of all nations – Jews & Gentiles

B) He is able to save from Extreme circumstances – Shad / Mesh…../ Our God is able … to deliver us

1) Dan in the Lions den /Darius Dan your God is able to deliver us

C) You might be looking at Horrible circumstances today – God is able to deliver – able to see you thru

He is able to save the worst of sinners : No one is beyond God’s touch

A)Paul declared he was the Chief of sinners / Jesus life reaching out to people like Zacheaus / Prostitute at Simons / Mary Mag/ Women well/

1) Woman who was caught in act of Adultery

B) In Kaposvar 3 yrs ago – Homeless young man – horns – saved

1) Saw him when we were there last week – totally different guy – Bible college studying to be a Pastor.

C) Our God is Able to save to the Uttermost – Once we are saved He is able to keep us from Falling / Able to perform His Promises

1) Abe from strengthened in His faith – believing that He who promised was able to perform what He promised – Son in his old age

D) Paul declared 2 Tim.1:12 for I know whom I have believed and am persuaded that He is able to keep what I have committed to Him until that Day.

Eph.3:20 ²⁰Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, ²¹to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.

E) He is able to SAVE TO THE UTTERMOST

Three more things We need to see – rather quickly

3^rd – The way to obtain this salvation is given to us in our text – All who come to God thru Him – thru J.C.

A)Jn. 14:6 Jesus said I am the way ………No man comes ……by me

Neither is there salvation in any other name

B)– The world says that we are narrow for saying that !!! Only quoting Him

He mad the statement – absolute statement not many ways or roads / REZ

C) One way & two roads – Broad road leading to destruction – all who have rejected Christ – Many on that road

1) Narrow road that leads to life – Faith in Jesus / His Work / His Rez

Few there are who find that Road / Which are you on today

4^th thing we see in our text is the Scope of this salvation: It is available to ALL who Come !!

A)Not just a select few – but all / anyone & everyone who will admit that they are a sinner – need a savior – put faith in Jesus

B) Jesus said in Rev.22:17 And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely.

1) Jesus said in another place that those who would come He would not cast out

C) So we see the Way & the Scope of this great Salvation –The Scope is it is available to all / THE WAY – all who would come to God thru Him !!!

The 5^th & final thing that we see in our text about this Glorious salvation is that we find the Assurance of our salvation in the Phrase Since He always Lives to make intercession for us

A)What does this mean & How does He do it – turn to Rom .8/ two aspects mentioned there.

B) Romans 8 focus on the Spirits work w/ in our lives Assurance we have of our salvation thru that work of the Spirit v.18 –27

C) Jesus is interceding for us – In Prayer in the way of offering up support for us – to walk in the will of God

1) So that is one of the ways that He intercedes – Prayer support

Skip down to v.33,34 see a 2^nd way Jesus Intercedes

³³Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies. ³⁴Who is he who condemns? The answer to those questions is it is Satan – He is the accuser of the Brethren

It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.

Now in 1 John 2:1,2 ¹My little children, these things I write to you, so that you may not sin. And if anyone sins, we have an Advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. ²And He Himself is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only but also for the whole world.

A)The word Advocate = One who pleads another’s case or a Defense attorney

B) Now many times when we hear that we picture in our minds / Perry Mason – court room Drama – Attorney walking back & forth

1) Pleading w/ a Judge or Jury to consider the evidence as He defends His Client –

C) That is in my opinion the wrong picture of our Lord & His intercession/

1) He is not pacing the court room of heaven pleading w/ the Father not to

send us to Hell!!!

D)We are told in many places in the N.T. that when Jesus ascended into Heaven He sat down at the right hand of the Father / Work was Complete

1) As He sits there He is interceding for us – Not by debating or by pleading / but by His Very Presence

In other words it is not His words that are the intercession it is HIS WOUNDS – He still bears the scars from the Cross / John 5

A)John looked expecting to see a Lion – instead sees a Lamb though it had been slain

B) It is the wounds that He still bears that make intercession for us –

C) He sits at the right hand of the father & ever lives to make intercession for us /

1) The fact that He is alive / His very presence in heaven is our intercession – Statement that the price has been paid

D) Think of it in this way – If we went to the house of Jim Plunket the former great QB of Stanford Univ. & Oakland Raiders

1) He said – In college I won the heisman – Looking at this old guy looks for like a Line backer than QB – Face barely fit in Helmet

E) We say – No way – Joking right ? – Pts to the Heisman on the Mantel / his name on it / stands as the Absolute evidence that He was a great player

So too Jesus sits today at the right hand of the Father bearing the wounds in His hands / feet / scars on his head / hole in his side

A)Wounds He will bear until the 2^nd coming / All testimonies to the Propitiation that He secured for each one us thru His death

B) There is no need for any discussion – His very Presence there bearing those wounds are His intercession / they leave no doubt

C) Think of Thomas the Ultimate doubter – Won’t believer until I can …..

1) Touch my wounds ……. My Lord & My God

So we are the recipients of this incredible salvation : The more we understand it the better off we will be – He is able to Save to the uttermost – all who come to God thru Him

A)Christian be encouraged – Your salvation is complete / Wonderful Present Blessings / Assurance of awesome future Benefits

1) Eternal life / New Body / Heaven – forever w/ the Lord

B) Not a Christian today – Jesus invites you like Thomas to see the wounds
