SATAN'S COMPROMISE
Exodus 8:20-32; Exodus 10:11-14
God desired to liberate the children of Israel from the cruel bondage of Egypt
A) The account of EXODUS, or the OUTGOING of the Israelites from Egypt is very dramatic and powerful
B) It is also filled with spiritual truth about the Christian life
Israelites go
C) The
TERMS of this demand and the ORDER in which we find them are important to a right understanding of the Christian life
1.) Exod. 3:18
'The LORD God of the Hebrews has met with us; andnow, please, let us go three days' journey into the wilderness, that
we may sacrifice to the LORD our God.'
2.) Exod. 4:22-23 "Then you shall say to Pharaoh, 'Thus says the
LORD: "Israel is My son, My firstborn.
3.) Exod. 5:1
Afterward Moses and Aaron went in and told Pharaoh,"Thus says the LORD God of Israel: 'Let My people go, that they
may hold a feast to Me in the wilderness.'"
God wants to DELIVER them from slavery for the purpose of RELATIONSHIP with Himself
A) So it is with us today
B) God desires to
FREE MEN from the slavery of sin & Satan andREDEEM MAN from the penalty of sin
1) So that MAN can have a
RELATIONSHIP with HimThe working of our EXODUS is accomplished by God in the same manner as that of the Israelites
A) NOTE the order / SACRIFICE comes first
B) A sinner can only stand in the presence of the Holy God of heaven if there is the blood of sacrifice between him and God
1) Hebr. 9:22
without shedding of blood is no remission.2) Eph. 2:
13 But now in Christ Jesus you who once were far off havebeen brought near by the blood of Christ
.
C)
SERVICE follows / God’s sacrificeEph. 2:
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God,9 not of works, lest anyone should boast.
10 For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand that we should walk in them.
D) The
FEAST follows reconciliation and service1) We remember the story of the Prodigal Son/ He was FIRST reconciled
THEN came the feasting
We see in these demands upon Pharaoh, the desires of God for our lives
A) God desires us to meet Him in the sacrifice of the cross
B) God desires
us to take His yoke upon us... to yield our redeemed lives to Him for the accomplishing of His will;C) God desires us to experience the gladness and joy of this relationship to
the fullest degree
TONIGHT we want to specifically consider the response of Pharaoh towards these demands
of God for our lives
B) We see the attempts that he will make to keep us from that which God desires for us today
1) Satan's methods are laid bare for us to see and analyze in Pharaoh's dealings with Moses
C) The Bible tells us that We ought not be ignorant of his devices... his schemes and methods/ See one of his tactics here
As we pick up in v.20 of Ch. 8 – 3 of ten plagues have been accomplished
Flies were everywhere Psa. 78:45 – The Flies Devoured them -
Now this is interesting to me that some aspects of the plague affected both the Egyptians & the Israelites
D)
Consequently we experience pain in our backs / Eye sight failing / bodies are getting old & Creaky –E)Doesn’t matter if you – Read Bible 10 hrs a day & pray for another 5 / of
if you are a heathen – Rebellious
Now PTL – the curse has been reversed & we are going to be Changed
This mortal ….. Corruption ……
D)Well if we walk in the way of the Lord we are going to insulate ourselves from certain things that
BUG the person who isn’t in the Lord
For Instance I can say – that I will never suffer from ALCOHOLISM
C) Now anyone can be totally free from the " Disease" of Alcoholism / How
D)Listen I have never met a person who said I have never tasted a drop of
Alcohol in my life – but I am an ALCOLIC – crazy !!!!!!
Now I can’t say – I will never get cancer / have a tumor/ bad back / those things affect anyone
18 "Behold, tomorrow about this time I will cause very heavy hail to rain down, such as has not been in Egypt since its founding until now.
19 "Therefore send now and gather your livestock and all that you have in the field, for the hail shall come down on every man and every animal which is found in the field and is not brought home; and they shall die."' "
20 He who feared the word of the LORD among the servants of Pharaoh made his servants and his livestock flee to the houses.
21 But he who did not regard the word of the LORD left his servants and his livestock in the field.
Many suffer because they don’t regard the word of the Lord / HEED TO IT
So we see the Lord made a Division – No Flies in Goshen / but in Egypt the flies were everywhere – TORMENTING THEM
V.25 – 29
Now here we see a Tactic of the Enemy – Pharaoh tries in two ways to get Moses to Compromise - / Tries 2 more ways in Ch. 10
1st Exod. 8: 25 Then Pharaoh called for Moses and Aaron, and said, "Go, sacrifice to your God IN THE LAND"
A) In other words Worship the Lord but
stay in EgyptB)Like Devil says to us
Worship the Lord, on Sundays... but live in Egyptthe rest of the week/ Live like the world the rest of the Week
that position
1) So many People – miss out – Not really committed to the Lord
The call of Jesus is one of COMMITMENT.... SEPARATION from the world (Egypt) unto Himself (The Promised land)
2Cor.6: 17 Therefore "Come out from among them And be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will receive you."
2Cor. 6:
14 Do not be unequally yoked together with unbelievers. For what fellowship has righteousness with lawlessness? And what communion has light with darkness?15 And what accord has Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer with an unbeliever?
16 And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said: "I will dwell in them And walk among them. I will be their God, And they shall be My people."
A) Moses said: NO WAY - We are to leave this place completely
26 And Moses said, "It is not right to do so, for we would be sacrificing the abomination of the Egyptians to the LORD our God. If we sacrifice the abomination of the Egyptians before their eyes, then will they not stone us?
1) Moses saying
The World looks on at the Church & because we call Abortion wrong abomination / Homosexuality a Sin – We are an Abomination
A) So that every time an Abortion doctor is shot / Clinic is Bombed or a Homosexual person is beat up or Treated unfairly - WE ARE BLAMED
B)It is you Christians & Your narrow minded Philosophies / Ideology
2nd Compromise Ex.8:28 28 And Pharaoh said, "I will let you go, that you may sacrifice to the LORD your God in the wilderness; only you SHAL NOT GO VERY FAR AWAY
Worship the Lord but don't go too far Don't get radical....
B)
Leave Egypt but stay close enough to come back1) Or just Take a little of Egypt with you
C) NOTE: There are so many Christians that want to know what they can do as a Christian and still be "O.K."
1) How far can I go & Still be saved !!!!!!
D) What they are really thinking is this:
"How carnal can I be and still be spiritual"1) The question should be: "How HOLY can I be?"
"How FREE can I be from unnecessary baggage?"
There are THREE things that come to mind in this compromise
1.) Satan proposes this compromise because he KNOWS that lukewarmness makes Jesus sick
2.) Satan proposes this compromise because he KNOWS that not very far is a MISERABLE state of existence
3.) Satan proposes this compromise because he KNOWS that all the way is the only
REASONABLE response to the love of GodRom. 12:1
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God,that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to
God, which is your REASONABLE SERVICE
3RD COMPROMISE EX.10
Exod. 10:8-11 8 So Moses and Aaron were brought again to Pharaoh, and he said to them, "Go, serve the LORD your God. Who are the ones that are going?"
9 And Moses said, "We will go with our young and our old; with our sons and our daughters, with our flocks and our herds we will go, for we must hold a feast to the LORD."
10 Then he said to them, "The LORD had better be with you when I let you and your little ones go! Beware, for evil is ahead of you.
11 "Not so! Go now, you who are men, and serve the LORD, for that is what you desired." And they were driven out from Pharaoh's presence.
3.)
After Moses said: We are going all the way for God Pharaoh said: O.K. - Worship, but don't bring your kids1) Don't teach them about worship
D) Don't teach them how to THINK about God and relate to God
Question :
Are your kids left behind in Egypt?1) Do they know WHY to worship and HOW to worship
NOTE: When Jesus said:
"Bring the children unto me" we often think that it was the moms who brought themA) BUT - The Greek says: And THEY brought them to Jesus it is the MASCULINE not the feminine
B) Dads our responsibility !!!!!!
Now There are those who say: "I don't want to make my kids resent religion
A) But how many take that point of view about school when their kids don't want to go to school
B)
"I wouldn't want them grow up hating reading or knowing how to add and subtract"C)Forget the Power of the Word of God – HEARING OF IT !!!!!!
God set high demands upon the parents of Israel concerning their children
Deut. 6:6 -7 6
"And these words which I command you today shall be in your heart. 7 "You shall teach them diligently to your children,.A) Can you imagine God saying this to them in the wilderness AFTER they had left Egypt and them respond by saying
: Children?!!1) You wanted us to bring our children?
4th Compromise : Ex.10:
24 Then Pharaoh called to Moses and said, "Go, serve the LORD; only let your flocks and your herds be kept back. Let your little ones also go with you."A) O.K. - Take your kids, but not your possessions
B) If Pharaoh couldn't talk them into sacrificing in the land, he would try to send them out of the land with nothing to give the Lord
but your money
I THINK that this could relate to how we approach our businesses
C) But in reality – Draw the line – reasonable – trust the Lord
Now I think that Pharaoh thought that If their possessions remained in Egypt, so would their affections
Matt. 6: 19 "Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal;
20 "but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.
21 "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.
NOTICE the response of Moses
Ex10:26
"Our livestock also shall go with us; not a hoof shall be left behind. For we must take some of them to serve the LORD our God, and even we do not know with what we must serve the LORD until we arrive there."
In other words God has the CLAIM upon everything that we have
These 4 areas of compromise the enemy tries to hit us w/ today
Our attitude needs to be ALL OR NOTHING !!!!!!! FINISH UP CH.8
29 Then Moses said, "Indeed I am going out from you, and I will entreat the LORD, that the swarms of flies may depart tomorrow from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people. But let Pharaoh not deal deceitfully anymore in not letting the people go to sacrifice to the LORD."
30 So Moses went out from Pharaoh and entreated the LORD.
31 And the LORD did according to the word of Moses; He removed the swarms of flies from Pharaoh, from his servants, and from his people. Not one remained.
32 But Pharaoh hardened his heart at this time also; neither would he let the people go.
