Exodus 9:1-35 Don’t Mess around w/ the Lord

Intro: The Writer of Heb. Declared that It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.

A) Hands – Crush or Caress depending upon your Relationship to Him

1)We have been studying a section of Scripture that deals w/ the Crushing

of the Nation of Egypt & the Hard heart of it’s leader Pharaoh

B) It is interesting to Note that there are 4 great ERA’S of miracles in the

Bible – 3 have already transpired – One is yet to come

    1. During those Periods the Eternal God stepped into the Stream of Time & Space w/ Mighty Manifestations of His Power

C) The First Era of Miracles came in the days that we are studying about

here – Came during the time & through the Ministry of Moses

    1. The 2nd was Manifested in the days of & through the Ministry of Elijah

D) And the 3rd was when Jesus walked on Planet earth as the God Man!!!!!

 

One Era yet remains / it is in the Future when God is going to Visit this Earth & those left upon it w/ a series of Devastating Judgements

  1. Righteous Wrath is going to be carried out – on a World that has rejected His Son !!!!!
  2. Now it is interesting to me that the 1st & 4th Eras of these Multiple Miracles – The time of Moses & the time that is yet to Come
  1. Are Eras where Heavy Judgement is Levied upon the Earth
  1. Focus of the two is Judgement – the 1st in Many ways is a Picture of the 4th from the First we can learn some things about the 4th
  2. Such as When it will Happen - / The Purpose of it !!!/ How to Avoid it

Several things I want to Draw your Attention to as we work our way through this Chapter tonight – Prepare us to receive Communion

1st - There is a set time of God Judgement v.5 &14

  1. Then the LORD appointed a set time, saying, "Tomorrow the LORD will do this thing in the land."

14 "for at this time I will send all My plagues to your very heart, and on your servants and on your people, that you may know that there is none like Me in all the earth.
  1. Here is something we need to understand – when God deals w/ Men / Churches / Kingdoms / w/ the World in General – There is a Set time
  1. Moses 40 yrs / Jesus 483yrs / Paul Conversion
  1. Your Life – TIMING - ( What you are going through right now – never end )
  1. God’s Timing

 

  1. Many of us Praying for a Building – GOD’S TIMING

    2.  

  2. God has a Specific timing Judgement upon the Earth
  1. Called The Day of the Lord

Listen Peter – 2 Peter 3:1-10

So Just as these Plagues came upon Egypt at an appointed time – so too the Judgement coming upon the World – appointed time

  1. The Lord Declared –My spirit will not always strive –
  2. The Lord is very Patient – but seems to indicate – He establishes a time Frame - Don’t MESS AROUND W/ GOD – DON’T PLAY GAMES
  3. God says TOMMORROW – HE MEANS IT

Now the Plague on the Cows was really a hit on Egyptian Idolatry – Idols in image of Cows -

  1. Also a hit on the Wealth of the nation – Animals were used for Industry & Agriculture – they were the machinery of that time
  2. So this would result in a work stoppage
  3. Focus of these Plagues v. 14 that you may know that there is none like Me in all the earth.
  4. To ISRAEL – REACTION – WOW !!!!!
  1. To EGYPT - WOE !!!!!!!!
  1. Which end are You on
  1. Trib. Heaven – Going WOW – THRONE –
  2. Those left here – WOE !!!!!

 

In the 2nd plague mentioned in this Chapter – Boils we learn some other things about God’s Judgements

  1. 1st they sometimes come UNANNOUCED – in the Plague on the Livestock the Lord said – tomorrow – One day to Decide
  2. God will do that in our Lives – Warning after warning – wake up call after wake up call ……GET RIGHT
  1. But there are other times that w/ out warning He invades our lives like a quick slap in the Face –

 

A second thing we see here is that – sometimes God Punishes by Physical Suffering – Boils everywhere – swelling oozing Puss

  1. This happens in two ways - God will strike you ill - Put you on your back – stop & think about things

B) I rarely get sick – Few times – ( Life out of Kilter – God laid me up)

C)But another way that this works is that – Bible declares that you reap

what you sow – Law of Sowing & Reaping

D)Our nation right now

Did you Know One out of five Americans now suffers from a sexual disease. 56 million people in the United States are infected with a sexually transmitted disease, & more than 1/2 of those sufferers have sexual diseases that are incurable.

US News & world report / research team revealed there are over 22 million people living w/ aids world wide . ( That they know of )

The World Health Organization has proclaimed AIDS the world's fastest-spreading epidemic. They estimate that more than 6,000 people are infected each day.

By the year 2000, the cumulative total of HIV infections in men, women and children around the world will be 30-40 million.

Now here is something that is interesting about these –boils notice Moses was to take Ashes from THE FURNANCE

  1. Not a Furnace but THE FURNANCE – it was a specific Furnace that was part of the Worship of the God Typhon
  2. The Egyptians would perform human sacrifices in the Furnace of this god – often times Sacrificing one of their Children –
  1. The Purpose of these sacrifices was to prevent a family from inheriting this type of Sickness
  1. God was making a MOCKERY OF THEIR IDOLATRY

Read v. 13-26

 

A) Now here we see the Longsuffering of the Lord toward sinners

  1. V.15 God says I had the power to cut you off from the face of the Earth
  1. So Patient
  1. In Trib we see this as well – 7 yrs is really giving time for People to Repent
  1. 144,000 Jews / 2 Angels / 2 Witnesses – God goes to great lengths in seeking to allow People time !!!!!

Now we also see the Purpose of God w/ Pharaoh - 16 "But indeed for this purpose I have raised you up, that I may show My power in you, and that My name may be declared in all the earth.

  1. "As yet you exalt yourself against My people in that you will not let them go.
  1. God primary Desire & Purpose for Pharaoh & all men is Conversion
  1. yet in the case of Pharaoh – God Knew that He was not going to soften His heart
  1. So The Lord would Prop Pharaoh up as an Example of what happens to a man & a Nation that Resist the Lord – CLINTON TAKE NOTE
  1. God was going to Humble this man – Same way He would centuries later w/ a King by the Name of Neb.

Dan. 4: 33 That very hour the word was fulfilled concerning Nebuchadnezzar; he was driven from men and ate grass like oxen; his body was wet with the dew of heaven till his hair had grown like eagles' feathers and his nails like birds' claws. And at the end of the time I, Nebuchadnezzar, lifted my eyes to heaven, and my understanding returned to me; and I blessed the Most High and praised and honored Him who lives forever: For His dominion is an everlasting dominion, And His kingdom is from generation to generation.

Been said – Exalt yourself under the mighty hand of God & you will be Humbled - but if You Humble yourself You will be exalted

Note v. 19-21 the Purpose of God for Your Life will be Determined right here -

  1. Those who heeded were saved / those who didn’t were not !!!!!
  2. It is really that simple
  3. Some People How do I know if I am Chosen ? – Get saved / Heed the Call – You will Know !!!!!

V. 27-34 – Note 2 more things –

1st – v. 34 Servants follow their leader

  1. Parents your kids – critical – they will be
  2. You are so will your Friends –

 

2nd thing – We see in Pharaoh the marks of an Unrealistic repentance

  1. Note 4 things

1) There was a recognition of sin !!!!! v.27 I ….sinned &We are wicked

2)There was a realization of the Greatness of God v. 27 The Lord is Righteous

3)There was a Promise to Repent – to Change his attitude & direction v.28 – This is enough I will let you go

4) But here is where it broke down the clincher – there was no Hatred of his Sin

 

Many People like this : Sorry / say Change / Acknowledge God / But when it comes down to it they don’t Change – because they love their sin

Guys There is a Judgement coming – upon the earth that is going to make these plagues look like Picnic

  1. We don’t have to worry - Christ Bore our Punishment – He took it upon Himself

B) All that matters have we Heeded the Lord’s Word

Rom.10: 9 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.

10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

11 For the Scripture says, "Whoever believes on Him will not be put to shame."

12 For there is no distinction between Jew and Greek, for the same Lord over all is rich to all who call upon Him.

13 For "whoever calls on the name of the LORD shall be saved."
