Exodus 35-40 Finishing the Work

A)Camp at Mt. Sinai – 3 months – receiving instruction concerning the law – Tab. Priesthood – Now – Spend 6 months building

B)Pick up in Ch. 35 – The Theme = LET THE CONSTRUCTION BEGIN

  1. God shared w/ Moses how it was to be done – now Moses is going to gather the People together – employ them in the Work

Ch.35:1,2 – The Sabbath Re-emphasized -

A)Don’t rest – Death – don’t sit at the Lord’s feet – death to your walk

  1. Lk.10 Martha vs Mary – One thing is needed – Mary Chosen – will not be taken away from her

V.3 You shall kindle no fire throughout your dwellings on the Sabbath day."

Good verse to Share w/ 7th day Adventist friends – Kindle a fire

A) How get to Church ? Car starting – what is happening – spark plugs etc

 

V.4,5 Giving from a Willing heart

A)Not GIVE UNTIL IT HURTS

B) God Loves a Cheerful giver – Hilarious –

  1. Lk. 21 – Jesus was at the temple watching as people came w/ offerings

C) Watched not what they gave – but how they gave it

  1. Widow w/ the 2 mites gave the Best and the most - HEART

"Truly I say to you that this poor widow has put in more than all; 4for all these out of their abundance have put in offerings for God, but she out of her poverty put in all the livelihood that she had."

So God loves a Cheerful Giver – Why? 3 Quick reasons Lk.16

1st Giving RESHAPES YOU Internally V. 13 No servant can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.

  1. Giving Not God’s way of raising funds / doesn’t need it / but it is his way of raising kids /
  2. See God knows that we are selfish by nature / covetous / but he wants to make us more like Him / He is a GIVER

2ND GIVING RELAEASES YOU IN MINISTRY V.10,11

10 "He who is faithful in what is least is faithful also in much; and he who is unjust in what is least is unjust also in much.

11 "Therefore if you have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?

So Jesus says that If you are faithful in how you use money / rewarded

  1. w/ True Riches – Spiritual MINISTRY & RESPONSIBILITY

 

3RD V.9 GIVING REWARDS YOU IN ETERNITY

  1. "And I say to you, make friends for yourselves by unrighteous mammon, that when you fail,( DIE) they may receive you into an everlasting home.
  1. When Andrew Carnegie the Multi Millionaire DIED – a Reporter asked his son – How much did your Dad leave Behind ? ALL of It !!!

    2. 1) See true – Can’t take it w/ you but you can send it ahead /

  2. When You invest in the kingdom of God – You give to the work of God – those funds are used to support missionaries / Do Outreaches

1) / teach and equip students in the Lord – whatever that ministry is doing for the Kingdom – You have a part of that reward/ Every person touched

How much was needed ? Over 1 billion dollars by today’s standards

A)Researchers have calculated Ch. 38:24,25 – $350 million in gold / $ 650 mill. In silver - That is a lot of Money - NOTE V. 20

B)Didn’t pass the bucket right then / no manipulation / No Pressure

  1. They went home and considered this v21

21Then everyone came whose heart was stirred, and everyone whose spirit was willing, and they brought the LORD’S offering for the work of the tabernacle of meeting, for all its service, and for the holy garments.

22They came, both men and women, as many as had a willing heart, and brought earrings and nose rings, rings and necklaces, all jewelry of gold, that is, every man who made an offering of gold to the LORD.
  1. This was the intended use of these ornaments – For the Tab. The work of the Lord - Brought their ornaments

    2. v.25 All the women who were gifted artisans spun yarn with their hands, and brought what they had spun, of blue, purple, and scarlet, and fine linen.

    6And all the women whose hearts stirred w/ wisdom spun yarn of goats’ hair
  2. The women used their talents –

    3. 27The rulers (LEADERS) brought onyx stones, and the stones to be set in the ephod and in the breastplate, PRECIOUS EXPENSIVE GEMS 28and spices and oil for the light, for the anointing oil, and for the sweet incense.

    29The children of Israel brought a freewill offering to the LORD, all the men and women whose hearts were willing to bring material for all kinds of work which the LORD, by the hand of Moses, had commanded to be done.
  3. The People brought what ever they had to contribute to the work

READ V.30-35

In v.30-35 We are given the detail of the calling of Bez/a/lel & Aholiab

A)Two men gifted by the Lord as craftsman – ( God thing) – Now they were to be empowered by the Spirit to do this work

B)God does that – takes gifted people and anoints them to be used for a work that He has for them

  1. V.34- Also given them the ability to teach others
  1. Some day – Young interns – work a few days a week w/ some of you who can teach them a trade – apprentice – send out w/ that knowledge

 

Ch. 36:1,2 :

A)Here we see the ingredients for a winning combination in Ministry / Gifted and they were WILLING

B) When Moses called they came – They had ability & Availability

  1. Too often those who Have a lot of Ability – very gifted – Problem is they are not Available

C) Others are Available – No ability - I am available any day of the week to sing w/ one of the worship teams

  1. No Ability
  1. God can use those who – don’t have much ability – who are available and use them
  2. But a great Combination is see those who are gifted – talents in Mechanics or wood / sewing – some gift – Available

Bez/a/lel and Aholiab go down in History as Models / examples of guys who were gifted craftsmen – gifted by the Lord / available to the Lord

A)They were able to get stuff done for the Lord - Oh how the Church needs guys like that !!!!!!

V.3-7 / Amazing

This is an amazing portion of Scripture – the People were told – You are bringing too much - Don’t Bring any more !!!!!

A)Now I am thankful that this is a giving Church – Both resources / tithes / time / energy – ( a lot that happens here )

B) But I would venture to say – if I saw the tithe records – I don’t don’t want to – but if I did – 3,000 people or 1500 families

  1. There is a Core group that are the givers – See it in time for sure / usually group 10-20% that support the work Church

C)Average house hold – $2500 a month – tithe 10% = $250 – in one yr. – Church would bring in 4.5 Million dollars – Land no problem

  1. Pt. Being - Though there is a lot happening – there could be more

Pick up the Pace – Description of the Coverings –

1st V.8-13 Linen – w/ fine Artistry –

A)Only those on the inside of the Tab. Would see the Beauty – Same is true spiritually – Only those who go on inside – Draw near see Beauty

B) Too many Christians live on the Fringe –

  1. Courtyard – Altar – CROSS – Jesus died – I am saved

C) But they never move past that – Never really discover what it means to be in Christ / What Jesus is doing now for them

  1. What He desires to do in & thru them

 

Rest of Ch. 36 Coverings of Goats hair / Rams Skins / Veil & the Door – we have already looked at in-depth in Ch. 26

A)Mention one thing – Door – 5 Pillars – Jesus is the door entry way

5 = Grace – way in is thru the Grace of God / Work of His Son

CH. 37 Move into the Furnishings inside the Tab. – again we looked at these in-depth in Ch.25

Ch. 38- Move outside into the Courtyard – Altar of Bronze = Judgment that was first thing you would see when entering the fence –

A) Continual Smoke- Sacrifice offered – Big altar – Blood was shed

B) After the Altar – There was the Bronze washing Basin – v.8

  1. There the Priest would wash before entering the Tab.

C) Neat Picture of what happens to the person who receives Christ

  1. Jesus was the Sacrifice for their sins / Once they put their faith in Him they are Washed – Cleansed of their sins – able to enter in

D) Note also V.8 Where the Bronze came from for the washing basin ?

  1. From the mirrors of the women

Significant – Illustrating that these women were so interested in seeing themselves but in seeing that the ministry of the Lord functioned Properly

A)Good reminder for Ladies – Importance of spending more time in Cultivating the Inner person vs the outer person

B) TROUBLE – How many families late to Church – Wife – couldn’t find what to wear / make up / rush in late – worship ½ over

1) How much more time could be spent in Prayer for fellowship / Etc.

C) Guys don’t have as much problem w/ this – ( They could spend more time) – UNKEPT

V. 21-31 – Lay out the cost – Comes to over 1 Billion dollars

 

Ch. 39 –Garments of the Priest – Looked at in 28

A)Two reminders – v.7 Stones on Shoulders – v.14 told represent the 12 tribes/ So the Priest had People on shoulders

B) V.8 Breastplate – also on their hearts

C) Good Picture for those who desire to be the Priest in their homes

  1. Bear the Family on our Shoulders – How

D) How did Christ bear us on His Shoulders – Cross – Instrument of death He died

  1. The way we bear our families on our shoulders – Die to self – Our needs our desires – seek to Bless our families

2nd on His Heart – We are on the Lord’s heart now as He Prays for us

A)Families on our hearts as we go to the Lord in Prayer

B) SO many family Problems would be solved if – Dads would Consistently do those two things – Die to self / Pray for families –

Another Application we noted back when we looked at this in Ch.28 is for those who desire to be used in Ministry

A)We are called to bear the Burdens of God’s People – Prayer & Service and to see them as GEMS – before the Lord

B) Heard Story about a Lady named Tory Andrews who worked for Humane society – responded to a call – a boy Pet Iguana trapped in a tree

  1. But by the time she arrived – fallen into pool – can’t swim / drown / laying on the bottom of pool

C) She arrives and this boy was really broken up / Tory – gave CPR and Mouth to mouth and Revived the Iguana

D) She Said – she hates Iguana’s – thinks very ugly –but when she saw how much this boy loved his Iguana - & How sad he was

  1. She said I had to try to save it

Application for us – We might look at someone in the Body – Ugly – we don’t like them

A)But Our perspective would change radically – if we saw how much the Lord loves that person - Lk .19 Jesus seeks out Zach.

B) Jn. 4 The woman at the Well

V.9-31 – Give details of the rest of the Priestly garments – already studied

V. 32-43 Describe how once everything was completed they Brought it to Moses to set up

Ch.40:1

Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying: 2"On the first day of the first month you shall set up the tabernacle of the tent of meeting.

So at this pt. It has been at least a yr since they left Egypt –

The Rest of Ch. 40 Describes how everything was set up –

Note v. 12,13

"Then you shall bring Aaron and his sons to the door of the tabernacle of meeting and wash them with water. 13You shall put the holy garments on Aaron, & anoint him and consecrate him, that he may minister to Me as priest.

A)1st Brought to the Door

2nd Washed

3rd Clothed

4th Anointed

5th Set Apart – Consecrated

V.16 Thus Moses did; according to all that the LORD had commanded him, so he did. 17And it came to pass in the first month of the second year, on the first day of the month, that the tabernacle was raised up.

 

V.33 – Last line – So Moses Finished the Work –

A)Great thing – the work was finished

B) Think about those in scripture finished / Noah ark – if not – sunk

C) Nehemiah finished the wall

1) Paul Finished the Race / BEST OF ALL – Jesus on the Cross

IT IS FINISHED !!!!!!

D) So many in Christian service BEGIN - but never finished

  1. Some approach walks w/ Lord like projects or books – ½ done projects ½ read books

E)Thankful Jesus was not like us !!! – He finished the work

1) Lord Help us -

Watch what happens next v.34 –35

A)When the work was finished the Cloud covered the tent / the Glory of the Lord came & dwelt there in

B) I wonder how much we miss of the glory of God – because we don’t finish the work that God has called us to

  1. We don’t do what He has told us to do

C) Here the work is done & the glory of the Lord shows up

V.36-38

A)God’s leading wasn’t – there goes the Cloud – follow- it was more of a hovering

B) Picture of ABIDING being under the cloud

C) Not Lord here we go bless what we are doing – but – help us to do what you are blessing !!!!!
