Well the Sun came up / she was found / Physicians treated her wounds / her attackers were caught & imprisoned

A)Life continued but the DAWN never came / See she was never able to climb up out of that canyon

B) So in Sept. of 1992 – 19yrs later – Rebecca drove back to that Bridge w/ her boyfriend & two yr old baby Daughter

1)    Kissed her daughter – asked Boyfriend to put her in the Car & that is when She Jumped – boyfriend startled when heard body hit water

C) That is when Rebecca Thompson died her 2nd Death

It Sad that her life was so shattered and Paralyzed by that horrible day that she couldn’t move on

A)Well the woman in Jn. Ch.4 is similar to Rebecca – she is a woman that had been beat up by life / hurt / heart broken & rejected

A)They only accepted the Pentateuch or the first 5 books of the OT as inspired scripture – { The rest of the OT they ignored. = More tension

B) When the Jews returned from exile during the time of Ezra and Nehemiah –

1) The Samaritans offered to help in the construction – but were denied by the Jews

C) They didn’t worship in Jerusalem – but instead built their own temple at MT Gerizim.  { Added to the tension.

C) At this point – Jesus opens the conversation to the spiritual – He offers her LIVING WATER.

1) You have nothing to draw with and the well is deep!

12 Are You greater than our father Jacob, who gave us the well, and drank from it himself, as well as his sons and his livestock?"

D) Here is what she is saying: How are you going to do that – nothing to draw and this is a great well – Been here for 2,000 yrs

B) It is easy for us to forget that in our affluent society.

1)So much emphasis on the outward – trying to look satisfied – But inside there is a VOID –

Jesus said to her, "You have well said, 'I have no husband,'  18 for you have had five husbands, and the one whom you now have is not your husband; in that you spoke truly."

Notice what she does – changes the subject

19 The woman said to Him, "Sir, I perceive that You are a prophet. 20 Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, and you Jews say that in Jerusalem is the place where one ought to worship."

A.)    We do the same

C) Worship is a deeply spiritual thing – Enter the throne room

1) Touch the heart of God – He inhabits the praises – Enthroned when we sing

D) Truth: Is according to scripture:

Now there are 7 Hebrews words for Praise each one - gives us insight into how worship declares our faith.

1st word is Barak used in Judg. 5:12 / Psa. 72:12-15 /   Barak speaks of silent praise from the Heart.

A) There is no statement of vocal expression in this word. /

B) But it is active in the sense that kneeling - is associated w/ it.

C) It means to kneel to bless - to salute ! It is a word that speaks of a deep Reverence !

2nd Word is Halal - which is the most common word for praise found in the Bible - 99 times in O.T. & in 1/3 of the Psalms

A) Halal is the root of the word Hallelujah which literally means to praise the Lord.

B) Halal means to shout / to celebrate / to rave / to boast / & to sing loudly !

1)  It is a word that speaks of a radical outward expression of worship- a real letting go - and worshipping the Lord.

3rd word is Yadah means to throw out the hands: It is used in 2 Chron. 20:21 and in several of the Psalms .

A) The idea w/ this word is to throw out the hands to touch the throne of God!

B) It speaks of a thankful expression of worship

4th word Towdah also involves the hands - Towdah means to lift our hands - it is the most common word for thanks in Israel today.

A) It speaks of lifting the hands in thanks for what God is going to do!

B) The outward lifting of the hands speaks of the inward lifting of the heart.

1) Lam. 3:41 declares let us lift our heart with our hands

C) Yadah speaks of giving - Towdah anticipates receiving - daddy pick me up

1)    The need or attitude of the heart is displayed in the way we lift our hands

5th Word is Zamar - speaks of instrumental praise - again used in several of the Psalms - it lit. means to touch the strings to celebrate in song

A) David as a worship leader was always inventing musical instruments to be used in worship.

6th word is Shabach = to commend to triumph to glory and shout with a loud voice !

A) - Now you get the idea here w/ most of these words aside from Barak/  that God intends worship to be a loud very expressive thing.

B) Excitement about the Lord and his presence in our lives!

Someone once said that Loud praise is not because God is deaf or hard of hearing - or far away , but it is because He deserves great commendation, His glory & majesty are worthy of praise

Also note: God is seeking such to worship Him!

John 4:25-26

25 The woman said to Him, "I know that Messiah is coming" (who is called Christ). "When He comes, He will tell us all things."

26 Jesus said to her, "I who speak to you am He."

Jesus reveals himself to this woman -  I am He

  First revelation of being MESSIAH

John 4:27-30

And at this point His disciples came, and they marveled that He talked with a woman; yet no one said, "What do You seek?" or, "Why are You talking with her?"

28 The woman then left her water pot, went her way into the city, and said to the men, 29 "Come, see a Man who told me all things that I ever did. Could this be the Christ?" 30 Then they went out of the city and came to Him.

She left her pot – { Suddenly what was the most pressing thing on her plate was no longer – when she met Jesus.

Bart left his coat –

Disciples left their boats

She becomes an evangelist:

31 In the meantime His disciples urged Him, saying, "Rabbi, eat."

32 But He said to them, "I have food to eat of which you do not know."

33 Therefore the disciples said to one another, "Has anyone brought Him anything to eat?"

34 Jesus said to them, "My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me, and to finish His work.

#3 Great Satisfaction in Service: My Food ….

Jeremiah 2:13

'For My people have committed two evils:

They have forsaken Me, the fountain of living waters,

And hewn themselves cisterns — broken cisterns that can hold no water.

Jesus gives living Water

We have to be so careful because we can be guilty of the same thing

A)Forsake the Lord – go after cisterns or wells that have cracks in them
